Graduate Assistants for Netball and Hockey

We require two Graduate Assistants for September 2023, one with particular skills in Hockey and the other in Netball. The postholder will work as part of the Sports department, supporting Physical Education, Games, academic, pastoral, and Co-curricular activities. The postholder will lead groups and classes that are suitable to their personal skills. In addition to practical work, the role will also include some administrative duties.  

Main Duties 

• Assisting with the teaching of a variety of sports during PE and Games (including Netball or Hockey) to pupils in both the Junior and Senior Schools;
• Assisting with sports team practices and other co-curricular activities;
• Attending and supporting Saturday fixtures with allocated teams;
• Assisting with teaching staff with Physical Education activities;
• Act as a role model and set high expectations of conduct to ensure that good behaviour is maintained; 
• Providing administrative support for the department, which may include assisting individual Heads of Sport with tasks as directed;
• Participating in the duty rota for supervising pupils at break, lunch and other times, as required.
• Accompanying pupils and staff on educational visits;
• Carrying out any other reasonable requests from the Director of Sport in line with the broad responsibilities of the role.

Person Specification

Essential:

• A good honours degree or equivalent;
• Experience of playing or coaching Netball or Hockey at a high level
• First Aid qualification, or willingness to obtain;
• Good ICT skills;
• Able to independently manage own workload;
• Excellent communication skills with ability to establish rapport with pupils, parents and colleagues;
• A flexible and enthusiastic approach to work;
• A willingness to engage in the whole life of the school;
• A passionate and accomplished sportsperson;
• Interest in, and experience of, sports coaching;

Desirable

• Experience of working with children of school age; 
• Additional experience in coaching cricket, rugby, netball, hockey, athletics, tennis, aquatics and/or rounders;
• Full clean driving licence and willingness to drive minibus if required;
• Relevant sports coaching qualification;
