St Mary’s Calne offers an academically enriching working environment within the beautiful Wiltshire countryside, with easy transport links to Bristol, Bath and London.

St Mary’s Calne is a member of the GSA and the Headmasters’ and Headmistress’ Conference (HMC); it is a leader in the field of girls’ independent boarding education.  It has around 360 girls aged 11-18, including 120+ girls in the Sixth Form.   As well as innovative teaching, learning and scholarship, St Mary’s Calne offers outstanding pastoral care and a vibrant, warm community.

Opportunity

St Mary’s Calne is looking for a dynamic, highly motivated, and inspirational teacher with excellent administrative and organisational skills, to teach PE and coach games throughout the school.  The position would suit an enthusiastic and committed professional; previous experience would be an advantage.  The successful candidate will be expected to be a flexible practitioner who is willing to develop as a professional.  As such they will be required to coach and contribute to a combination of the school’s major sports to a high standard.  These include Lacrosse, Hockey, Netball, Tennis, Athletics, Cricket, and Swimming.

The successful candidate will be part of a large team of sports specialists working under the direction of the Director of Sport at St Mary’s Calne. The Department is also supported by the Executive Director of Sport who oversees the strategic provision of Sport across the site which includes St Mary’s Calne, St Margaret’s Prep School, St Mary’s Calne Tennis Academy, and the St Mary’s Sports Club.

What we want from you

  • A degree in a sport related subject or equivalent training and experience.
  • Ability to coach at least two of the main school sports from Year 7 to Year 13.
  • If not a Lacrosse specialist, a willingness to undertake professional development training to build knowledge and confidence to be able to deliver and run a lower school team.
  • Ability or willingness to teach A Level PE.
  • Experience or willingness to develop pupil sports leadership courses and opportunities, including supporting sports scholars.
  • Committed to promoting PE and Sport across the whole school site, including supporting colleagues in the Prep school.
  • An empathetic, enthusiastic and well-presented person, capable of inspiring confidence in pupils, parents and staff.
  • Ability to: work flexibly to fulfil the requirements of the post; prioritise; work calmly under pressure and respond positively to changing demands.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with very good written and spoken English.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills; competency in the use of ICT for administration and teaching purposes.
  • An understanding of the expectations, ethos and aims of a full boarding school. 
  • Committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of children and young people.
