Founded in 1890, Withington Girls is a thriving, non-denominational school in south Manchester. Physical activity was one of its founding principles. There are 720 pupils in total,
with a Junior School (Years 3–6) of 148, Senior School (Years 7–11) of 427 and a Sixth Form of 145. The Head is a member of both HMC and GSA.
Academic results are consistently outstanding: Withington is consistently ranked in national league tables as the top independent school in the North West of England. Studies are
directed towards encouraging a love of learning for its own sake, frequently going beyond the confines of the examined
curriculum, as well as towards the ultimate goal of University
entrance, including Oxford and Cambridge. The school has a
happily informal atmosphere, thriving co-curricular programme,
community spirit and buoyant alumnae network.
