I am an RFU L2 qualified Sports Coach with a passion for all sports, but mostly within Rugby Union. From the age of 5, I played Rugby for a local team, progressing to Refereeing and Coaching. I volunteered at my local club, Vale of Lune RUFC, for four years, where I coached kids aged under nines to under thirteens.
I would love to explore a job in Rugby Union after my studies are complete, ideally as an Assistant Coach or TMO referee. I have an almost encyclopedic knowledge of the game, due largely to having a rare medical condition which has given me the gift of a photographic memory! I work particularly well in recalling facts, figures, and rules in Sports especially when I have watched a game. I can remember minute details.
I worked as a volunteer Coach, where I taught new players the basic principles of tackling, focusing on technique and safety because, in my opinion, that's the most important area. Over the four years I volunteered, I took the opportunity to complete as much CPD as I could to enhance my knowledge of the game, keeping player safety at the forefront of my approach. I gained several RFU qualifications, including L2, Headcase, Lineout and First Aid around Concussion to support my studies.
In this time, I refereed multiple games, including back-to-back Junior Rugby Tournaments and travelled extensively throughout the North West to support the Coaches and fellow Referees. I became a junior Referee with Madrefs and was enrolled on the RFU Young Match official programme until Covid hit.
Whilst I worked at McDonald's, on either breakfast or lunch shifts, I mainly worked in the kitchen preparing food, or cooking it in batches on the grill. I also took customer orders, working within a team to ensure a fast seamless, service.
