I have been teaching since graduating with a PGCE in Physical Education from the University of Bath in 1998. I have taught in the UK and between 2004 and 2023, I was working abroad in UAE, Tanzania, Jordan, and Malaysia, and China. As you can see from my application I have worked predominately as a leader of Physical Education departments, as well as managerial roles such as Deputy Head Pastoral, Key Stage Coordinator, Head of Academics, IGCSE Coordinator, and Examinations Officer.  I also deliver IGCSE Physical Education classes to years 10 and 11, to include the practical moderation, and A Level Physical Edcation to year 12 and 13 students. In my current role I lead the Physical Education department, delivering PE classes to Years 7-13, to include A Level PE (AQA) and Cambridge iGCSE PE. In October 2022 I enrolled on a NPQSL course with Best Practice Network, and completed the course in April this year.  I am a CIE iGCSE practical PE moderator and an AQA A Level practical moderator. In all the schools I have worked I have always been fully involved in classes, clubs and trips arranged outside of the usual school hours. Offering sports teams has always been part of my job, to include swimming, rugby, athletics, volleyball, and cricket. I have also led trips both in country and overseas to include sports weekends, ski trips, and a World Challenge trip to Tanzania. As shown by my experience in schools, I am enthusiastic about education and always strive to do the best for my students. I can take on responsibility for learning and have experience of successfully managing a class, and department. In closing I welcome the opportunity to meet you and discuss how my experiences and skills would benefit you and the other staff and students. Thank you for your time and consideration and I look forward to hearing from you soon. Yours truly, Duncan Hardie

I am looking for a school where I can join and lead where appropriate a thriving department and bring my extensive knowledge and experience to the role to be the inspiration and motivation in developing a rich varied programme of PE and school sport. My excellent organisational skills and ability to develop and foster good working relationships with staff and students would enable me to lead others and be an integral part of the wider school community. I have been planning and delivering PE from Nursery to Y6 at a range of schools in Brighton, London and Malaysia and I would be able to bring new and innovative ideas to further develop the curriculum and department. I have developed new teaching plans, assessment opportunities, progress trackers, inclusive clubs and many displays and newsletters to celebrate and inspire students' performance.  Planning the extra curricular clubs and competition schedule has always been part of my job and I relish the opportunity to work with colleagues in other schools to provide a range of opportunities for the students. This is how many students improve their confidence and competence in sports and activities and also develop skills for life.. I have organised fixture calendars across my schools and planned and hosted numerous events including, inter-house competitions, sports days, festivals, young leader training and many staff training and professional development sessions. At Nexus I had the opportunity to work in a larger department where I was able   to take the lead and also work independently to build the primary department. This was an excellent   experience for me and has allowed me the opportunity to learn from colleagues as well as  lead training and new initiatives within the department and across the school.  While in Brighton I was the lead teacher for Primary PE across the city and organised and led   both sport specific and PE curriculum development training for new and experienced teachers. Trainee teachers from the university were often sent on placement to observe and discuss the   way in which I had written and delivered the PE curriculum and also how my school used PE to impact other areas of the children’s learning.

With over 13 years’ experience providing engaging & structured physical education in high-performing preparatory schools, I am certain to bring seasoned expertise in student development to any school. I am a stickler for being on time, disciplined and have the ability to improvise, adapt and overcome a situation when it is needed. These values were instilled during my 12 years in the British Army. I did not come into teaching the conventional way of university, so I have learnt from day one from the coaches and PE teachers that I have worked with or come across. Also, I would take note of what the heads of the department go through within their own daily routines. With that, I have made myself into an inspiring, confident, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, PE teacher and more recently a leader, manager and role model that encourages exercise and a healthy approach to daily life. My time as Head of PE at The Hampshire School Chelsea, sees me set high expectations so that all students are inspired, motivated & challenged to reach their full potential, with a commitment to my pupils and the quality of their experiences by catering for the range of needs of all the students & I provide a stimulating, happy, safe & supportive learning environment.            As a Teacher of PE in both Hampshire and Hill House School, I planned & taught well-structured, differentiated lessons for EYFS to Year 8 that aligned to the agreed curriculum & cultivated intellectual curiosity in my students. I was responsible for the educational development of my classes, delivering an age-appropriate curriculum. I made sure to foster positive self-esteem in my pupils & hold high expectations of their work & behaviour. All of this has allowed me to develop a mastery of PE as a subject along with general teaching pedagogy. Of course, ensuring the wellbeing of students & safeguarding them is my ultimate concern. I am extremely hard working and committed to delivering high quality teaching and learning to improve and raise standards wherever I am. I believe in motivating children to be their best selves, instilling an appreciation of learning across the curriculum.
