My diverse background allows me to deliver high-quality coaching sessions tailored to athletes at all levels. Whether designing personalised training programs, incorporating sports psychology principles, or managing sports programs effectively, I am committed to fostering holistic athlete development and promoting a culture of excellence. The importance of providing an insightful, impassioned and consistent perspective for young people is a position which commands great responsibility. I have enjoyed educating, coaching and inspiring young people in various different positions/roles. Having a thorough and methodical approach to strategy and operations provides those around me the opportunity to flourish in their respective roles. I possess the relative experience and skillsets complemented with enthusiastic and energetic leadership. My excellent communication and relationship building skills mean I am often a popular contributor within any organisation. I have huge experience working alongside Sporting Directors to deliver comprehensive programmes of athletic development whilst also supporting both major sports and those individuals talented in less significant sports. The ability to facilitate young people’s sporting experiences is a privilege and the positive experiences I have had serve to fuel my ambition further. Working in different schools in the UK and overseas, my own sports experiences, coupled with being a father to two gifted young sports participants provides me with a comprehensive appreciation of the nuances of School Sport. My experiences have helped me develop a flexible approach in dynamic environments aided by my confident decision making. The provision of sport and activities within schools is intrinsic to the fabric of any school, often commanding significant marketing opportunities. The social interaction, inclusion and comradery that physical activity offers young people should be a cornerstone of childhood and adolescence. Learning and mastering sports skills and providing healthy competition complement an ambitious and well delivered academic framework. Changes observable in the everyday life of young people mean that sport and activity now provides a unique and valuable wellbeing opportunity. I am seeking a Director of Sport position as I feel I have both the relevant experiences and qualities to excel and I genuinely relish the opportunity to make a significant impact.

I am looking for a school where I can join and lead where appropriate a thriving department and bring my extensive knowledge and experience to the role to be the inspiration and motivation in developing a rich varied programme of PE and school sport. My excellent organisational skills and ability to develop and foster good working relationships with staff and students would enable me to lead others and be an integral part of the wider school community. I have been planning and delivering PE from Nursery to Y6 at a range of schools in Brighton, London and Malaysia and I would be able to bring new and innovative ideas to further develop the curriculum and department. I have developed new teaching plans, assessment opportunities, progress trackers, inclusive clubs and many displays and newsletters to celebrate and inspire students' performance.  Planning the extra curricular clubs and competition schedule has always been part of my job and I relish the opportunity to work with colleagues in other schools to provide a range of opportunities for the students. This is how many students improve their confidence and competence in sports and activities and also develop skills for life.. I have organised fixture calendars across my schools and planned and hosted numerous events including, inter-house competitions, sports days, festivals, young leader training and many staff training and professional development sessions. At Nexus I had the opportunity to work in a larger department where I was able   to take the lead and also work independently to build the primary department. This was an excellent   experience for me and has allowed me the opportunity to learn from colleagues as well as  lead training and new initiatives within the department and across the school.  While in Brighton I was the lead teacher for Primary PE across the city and organised and led   both sport specific and PE curriculum development training for new and experienced teachers. Trainee teachers from the university were often sent on placement to observe and discuss the   way in which I had written and delivered the PE curriculum and also how my school used PE to impact other areas of the children’s learning.

During the past 3 years I have ignited a real desire to continue to develop key industry knowledge/skills in a sporting profession and continue to broaden my horizons. The opportunity to work in a professional environment would enable me to both build on previous experiences within education and utilise my knowledge and experiences working in the Welsh Premiership at Pontypridd RFC and in the Welsh Rugby Unions Performance Analysis bureau.   Throughout my undergraduate degree I was fortunate to receive placement experiences with regional rugby clubs and  Welsh Premiership clubs. These enabled me to gain a wider range of real-world experiences in professional and varied settings. In turn, this allowed me to gain invaluable insight into the organisation, delivery, management of a sporting organisation. In addition, these experiences ignited my thirst for a career in the professional game. Retrospective reflection has afforded me a far greater awareness of what is expected of individuals in terms of management skills and leadership skills in a high-profile sporting organisation/s. The role at Pontypridd RFC in the Welsh Premiership became of particular interest to me due to the daily challenges presented by the coaching management workforce, which fitted perfectly in relation to subsequent actions that emanated from this personal growth exercise.   In addition to undertaking my degree in Rugby Coaching and Performance, I have been working as a Teaching Assistant through a supply agency.  This has shown me that I can combine my sporting background with a career in teaching. Working with young people has shown me how I can pass on my knowledge and love of sport.   The Welsh Rugby Union’s analysis bureau has provided me with much insight into how to deliver on the ground in semi-professional, professional and international environments. I enjoyed exploring the fundamental principles of business which underpins any successful initiative Sport runs through my veins, specifically rugby. My undergraduate degree programme has left me with a clear understanding that the exit route allows me to combine my love of sport with my increasing desire to teach.  I understand that teaching is a vocation, not a job, and am very aware of the dedication and hard work it takes to provide pupils with the best learning opportunities I have looked to develop my Industry focused CV appropriately during my time at USW. I have gained my WRU Level 2 Coaching, WRU Level 1 Coaching, TAG coaching & refereeing

Ryan Cartwright
My name is Ryan Cartwright. I am an ex-professional cricketer/athlete, physical education teacher and sports coach with a specialisation in cricket. I am currently doing a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education), and I will be a fully qualified Life Orientation teacher in the Senior and FET (Further Education and Training) phase in December 2022.   I am passionate about people, sports, education and developing young leaders for our future. The impact my teachers and coaches had on my life and their influence has had a profound effect on how I have lived my life, how I deal with people and the relationships that I’ve built over my 30 years.   There is a special link between sports and education. There is so much learning and opportunity for growth in the sports field and that is something that consistently motivates me in making a positive impact on the learners that I am working with. I believe in looking after the needs of the individual that leaves a major impact on that child’s life is the priority. There is so much power we hold in education and that’s why I feel that it’s even more reason to use that power with responsibility. I believe that good people make good teachers and those good teachers are people that put others first.   I’d like to pursue teaching Physical Education and Life Orientation. My personal goals and aspirations include completing my PGCE this year (2022) and then working within a school with a vision, ambition and drive that equals or supersedes my own. I am a student of life and a life-long learner. I love a challenge and improving myself consistently, this is a huge part of my aspirations and therefore my personal development is crucial in continually progressing myself for me to be able to successfully provide a high-quality work ethic and service to those I work with and teach. My experience in education has allowed me to build children up, creating an environment where individuals can express themselves, grow, and learn effectively. This was my goal all along. I believe strongly in effective communication and teaching children how to improve on their communication skills. Working within a school will allow me to make an impact on a personal level. It will also allow me to lead by example and be a positive role model in a child’s life. Sport has always been my platform; therefore, coaching has been at the forefront of my working relationships and connections with the people that I have worked with. I have over 10 years of sports coaching experience. I would consider myself open-minded, honest, caring, and intuitive. I am a people person and passionate about growth and development. Teaching speaks to my interpersonal qualities, besides creating an environment for children to learn within their lives. I’d like to think that my classroom is not bound by its four walls or the boundaries of the field, but rather making the world their classroom, learning in as many facets of their lives. This leads to good human beings, not just students, being present in a world that is forever changing, and finding their voice and power to change the world in their vision. The passion for what I do is seen by those around me, creating an environment that always leads to an unquenchable thirst for growth. I want to help build foundations for children to use and flourish from. Everyone has the potential to be great, they just need some help. I like to view it as a fire that I have within that will spread to all the children I teach and coach. My purpose has always been to change the world, I guess that world is not my generation's world but the generations to come. I am currently employed at a private school in White River, South Africa, called Uplands. I work with children from the ages of 5 to 18. I am a physical education teacher, and sports coach, with a specialised focus on cricket. I have the role of Head of Cricket at Uplands Preparatory School (ages 5 to 13) and manage the cricket operations within the Preparatory School. I also coach cricket at the College (ages 14 to 18) and have been completing my teaching practice there too. I teach Life Orientation (PHSE, Life Skills). I am looking at potentially immigrating to another country, particularly Europe or the United Kingdom, but am also open to other options abroad.
