I am an RFU L2 qualified Sports Coach with a passion for all sports, but mostly within Rugby Union.  From the age of 5, I played Rugby for a local team, progressing to Refereeing and Coaching. I volunteered at my local club, Vale of Lune RUFC, for four years, where I coached kids aged under nines to under thirteens.  I would love to explore a job in Rugby Union after my studies are complete, ideally as an Assistant Coach or TMO referee. I have an almost encyclopedic knowledge of the game, due largely to having a rare medical condition which has given me the gift of a photographic memory! I work particularly well in recalling facts, figures, and rules in Sports especially when I have watched a game. I can remember minute details.

A brief explanation of my career to date.   My career in retail started 20 years ago when I began work ing in my wife ’ s family business Queally’s SuperVal u Kilrush/Killaloe. The j o urney started in Kilrush w here I completed an 18 month trainee management course which involved spending time in all departments of the store getting an all-round education. In 2004 we had also started the build of Killaloe SuperValu which I was heavily involved in. I found the project management of the building of Killaloe SuperValu very exciting and interesting, and a steep learning curve, viewing things from a green site to what’s now cur r ently in place today  The Convent Hill Shopping Centre .   Queally’s SuperValu Killaloe open ed in 2004 and it was then that I relocated to the town of Killaloe to be involved from the start . My main responsibilities along with the management team was to lead a team of staff members by continuous onsite training to ensure excellent quality of product and service .   Through the years in retail I was always involved on a voluntary basis in local school and community rugby. In 2016 I made a decision apply for a CCRO role with Munster Rugby which I got and that lead me into looking at getting back into my first love sport as a Rugby coach. I decided that it was a great time to take a break from retail and apply myself and see how far coaching could take me. At the same time spending more time at home with the family too. In 2017 I got involved with Cistercian Collage Roscrea a private A school in the Lei nster region after my time with M unster ended. I coached the Senior 2nds and Assisted with the SCT in CCR and also managed doing 3 years as a Housemaster with the school too.(2017 -23). 2023-2024 I coach the Senior Women’s rugby for two seasons at UL Bohemians Rfc and UL University of Limerick. This season past both club and university teams won back to back trophies.  2024-Present  Ciaching in Private A School Glenstal Abbey in Marroe Co. Limerick Juniors    Now as 2024 is nearing an end I am looking to return to the corporate world or look at challenging my self and my coaching, as its time too as my kids are getting older one in 2nd year College in Galway and one progressing to 6th year and the demands of schooling, life style and living has me honestly thinking that the time is now right to plan for the next 20 years of my life. I am 50 years old now older and wiser and feel that with my retail and coaching experience I have joint learnings that will be valuable for any company, organisation and or school looking to invest in me. I am an energetic, motivated, ambitious, fast learner willing to start at the bottom to prove my worth, learn and work my way up the ladder to achieve excellence.  Thanking you in advance for your time and looking forward to hearing from you soon. Regards, Tyrone Elliott

You will see from my CV that I am a highly experienced rugby coach with a proven track record as a player, including at county and National levels.  I have more than 25 years’ experience of coaching across a variety of age groups up to senior level rugby.  More recently in the last two seasons I have joined Northampton Saints Development Player Pathway coaching team at Suffolk and NE Essex centre; my current role is Head coach for U14s.   I have held a variety of leadership roles within my local club, many of which gave me responsibility for mentoring and training other aspiring coaches. I am happy to take on responsibility and commitments and have held a number of committee and county representative positions. I am passionate and committed to developing the game at grass root level – rugby runs through my core!    The potential to make a real difference in this position excites me and I very much hope I have the opportunity to demonstrate this to you through an interview.

I am an accomplished rugby professional with a distinguished playing career spanning from 2001 to 2011. I have had the privilege of representing multiple unions in South Africa and achieving my highest accolade as a player for the Springboks Sevens in 2006-2007. Additionally, I had the honor of competing against the British and Irish Lions in 2009, which further enriched my rugby journey. Beyond my playing days, I have transitioned into a coaching role, serving the first four years as a skills coach at Cayman Rugby. During this period, I have worked diligently to enhance the abilities of players across various age groups, from youth to senior international levels. I have also actively contributed to the union's operational functions, providing support in areas such as field repair and vehicle maintenance. My recent four years with Cayman Rugby were spent as the Director of Rugby. Complementing my practical experience, I am currently engaged in a sports management program at the University of Cape Town. This academic pursuit enables me to deepen my understanding of the sports industry and expand my skill set in areas such as leadership, administration, and strategic planning. With a strong passion for coaching, my philosophy centers on developing well-rounded players, fostering teamwork, and instilling a robust work ethic. I firmly believe in the importance of mentorship and strive to create a positive and growth-oriented environment for my athletes. Motivated by my dedication to rugby and an unwavering commitment to personal development, I am eager to contribute my skills and expertise to a new coaching opportunity. I am a dedicated team player with a proven ability to connect with athletes, inspire their potential, and guide them toward success both on and off the field.

To introduce myself feels like a good place to start with, then adding more specific details and context regarding my application. While I was born in Brighton in the UK , after several years of working abroad I ended up residing in Sweden for the last 19 years. This August I moved back to live in Hampshire, and I am currently writing my thesis M.Sc in sports coaching and pedagogic, at Cardiff Metropolitan university, which is due early 2023.    I am very passionate and dedicated about my sports coach journey, which has included coaching and teaching in Sweden the last 11 years for both youth and seniors. I am continually looking to develop my knowledge, or learning new techniques & educational skills. This has included my attendance of numerous CPD events such as with Pierre Villepriux, and both the Canterbury Crusaders and Northampton saints in both the academy and first team training environments. However I think my various endeavors including the academy program and center of excellence in Sweden, my teaching experience and current postgraduate studies in sports coaching and pedagogy,  mirror those accountabilities you are looking for in  an applicant as director of sport or director/head coach for a school /academy rugby program.    Having previously both managed and implemented educational and sport support programs, I believe I have the skills and competencies to fulfill the role you have advertised, and  what institutional or certification/ knowledge, needs to be learnt and completed, I would of course be keen to develop as a life learner.    I have liaised with players, parents, educational institutions and various stakeholders in previous roles. This included providing individual support (asynchronous or in person), tracking progress and reporting to the specific students/players and stakeholders, and included providing pedagogical recommendations. My own life experiences and previous employment provide unique perspectives both as rugby coach, teacher and parent, that can support these athletes/Students in their journey.    I am a keen believer that student/player welfare is an important factor that contributes in supporting both success on the pitch and in achieving the academic or vocational  endeavor each individual has chosen to pursue. These roles are about supporting people and their individual needs,in excelling and being successful, and this I believe is an area where I have shown a proven track record of success.
