The importance of providing an insightful, impassioned and consistent perspective for young people is a position which commands great responsibility. I have enjoyed educating, coaching and inspiring young people in various different positions/roles. Having a thorough and methodical approach to strategy and operations provides those around me the opportunity to flourish in their respective roles. I possess the relative experience and skillsets complemented with enthusiastic and energetic leadership. My excellent communication and relationship building skills mean I am often a popular contributor within any organisation. I have huge experience working alongside Sporting Directors to deliver comprehensive programmes of athletic development whilst also supporting both major sports and those individuals talented in less significant sports. The ability to facilitate young people’s sporting experiences is a privilege and the positive experiences I have had serve to fuel my ambition further. Working in different schools in the UK and overseas, my own sports experiences, coupled with being a father to two gifted young sports participants provides me with a comprehensive appreciation of the nuances of School Sport. My experiences have helped me develop a flexible approach in dynamic environments aided by my confident decision making. The provision of sport and activities within schools is intrinsic to the fabric of any school, often commanding significant marketing opportunities. The social interaction, inclusion and comradery that physical activity offers young people should be a cornerstone of childhood and adolescence. Learning and mastering sports skills and providing healthy competition complement an ambitious and well delivered academic framework. Changes observable in the everyday life of young people mean that sport and activity now provides a unique and valuable wellbeing opportunity. I have been teaching since graduating with a PGCE in Physical Education from the University of Bath in 1998. I have taught in the UK and between 2004 and 2023, I was working abroad in UAE, Tanzania, Jordan, and Malaysia, and China. As you can see from my application I have worked predominately as a leader of Physical Education departments, as well as managerial roles such as Deputy Head Pastoral, Key Stage Coordinator, Head of Academics, IGCSE Coordinator, and Examinations Officer.  I also deliver IGCSE Physical Education classes to years 10 and 11, to include the practical moderation, and A Level Physical Edcation to year 12 and 13 students. In my current role I lead the Physical Education department, delivering PE classes to Years 7-13, to include A Level PE (AQA) and Cambridge iGCSE PE. In October 2022 I enrolled on a NPQSL course with Best Practice Network, and completed the course in April this year.  I am a CIE iGCSE practical PE moderator and an AQA A Level practical moderator. In all the schools I have worked I have always been fully involved in classes, clubs and trips arranged outside of the usual school hours. Offering sports teams has always been part of my job, to include swimming, rugby, athletics, volleyball, and cricket. I have also led trips both in country and overseas to include sports weekends, ski trips, and a World Challenge trip to Tanzania. As shown by my experience in schools, I am enthusiastic about education and always strive to do the best for my students. I can take on responsibility for learning and have experience of successfully managing a class, and department. I am looking for a school where I can join and lead where appropriate a thriving department and bring my extensive knowledge and experience to the role to be the inspiration and motivation in developing a rich varied programme of PE and school sport. In my experiences I have been able to work in some challenging environments with some inspiring teachers that have helped me in deciding what the best career is. One of these examples was when I was a PE teaching assistant in a school in London, through this I was able to gain valuable experience and observe some of the best adaptive and EAL teaching as the community surrounding the school was predominantly a South Asian community. In my role at the school, I worked alongside a PE specialist who led the delivery of PE throughout the school, it was a four-form entry state school so being organised and working well as a team was fundamental to success. In the delivery of the lessons, I was able to first assist and observe then go onto to lead sessions in age groups ranging from five to eleven in different skills and sports. With this I also took on after school clubs and took children to competitions in the local area and the main highlight being a first girls football competition where despite limited experience and training, they were able to win a match. This then led to more enthusiasm for girls’ competition and more signing up to the after-school clubs. In addition to these experiences, I have been able to work in wraparound care within a primary school setting where I was able to interact with children and run games and interact with parents daily. I have experience in holiday camps where again I was fully engaged with running activities for primary school children and having clear boundaries on behaviour. Throughout these experiences I have been able to build up a strong variety of sports and activities and how they can be made engaging and how also non-traditional sports can be turned into something that would still achieve your session and lesson objectives. Sport and physical activity play a big part in my life as I am a keen follower and participant in cricket. I also am a long-distance runner and in 2024 I am going to take part in a half marathon. I follow football, rugby, tennis, and I gain enjoyment out of them as they are a nice escape and it is always fascinating to see the different techniques, tactics and challenges they must get through.
